Sanitary Self-priming Pump
Applications
This specially designed type has the ability of pumping liquids with entrained gases or liquefied gases. It does not need either an external vacuum source or a foot valve and filling source, and will re-prime if it becomes air bound.
It can be used for negative suction with prior priming as well as with filtration equipment. It is perfect to pump wine, oil, syrups, volatile such as alcohol, acetone and other solvents, or other materials at temperatures close to boiling points. It is also widely used in CIP recovery systems.
Operating Principles
- When the pump starts, the rotating impeller creates a partial vacuum.
- Air from the suction piping is then drawn into this vacuum and gets entrained in the liquid drawn from the priming chamber.
- This air-liquid mixture is then pumped into the air separation chamber (within the casing) where the air will be separated from the liquid and expelled out the discharge piping while the liquid returning to the priming chamber.
- This cycle repeats until all of the air from the suction piping has been expelled and replaced by the pumped liquid.
